Leapfrog Announces 2021 Top Hospital Awards For Ohio Hospitals

Four Local Hospitals Receive Coveted National Distinction

The Leapfrog Group announced four hospitals in Ohio have been named to its 2021 national list of Top Hospitals. The Ohio hospitals that received Top Hospital Awards are Adena Regional Medical Center, Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Licking Memorial Hospital and Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital. The elite award is one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive in safety and quality. The winning facilities will be officially recognized today as part of Leapfrog’s virtual Annual Meeting.

Health Action Council is a Leapfrog Regional Leader, working with providers, purchasers, payors and patients to drive safe, high-quality health care.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals on how well they protect patients from errors and infections, as well as the effectiveness of procedures and other care they provide. A total of 149 hospitals were selected as Top Hospitals, including: 8 Top Children’s Hospitals, 46 Top General Hospitals, 23 Top Rural Hospitals and 72 Top Teaching Hospitals.

“We are pleased to recognize our 2021 Top Hospitals. Their commitment to transparency, patient safety, and quality care saves lives every day,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals continue to face challenges as the pandemic evolves, and upholding these quality and standards is a major achievement. Health Action Council has done an exemplar job and we can expect them to be at the helm of this journey.”

The Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals Methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.
