Marking The 10th Anniversary:

Leapfrog Group Announces Fall 2022 Hospital Grades For Minnesota, Ohio

Marking the tenth anniversary of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization representing the nation’s most influential employers and purchasers of healthcare, announced the fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

Driven in Minnesota, Ohio, and Oregon by Health Action Council, the Leapfrog Group has a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.

In Minnesota, 46 hospitals were graded, and 15 earned an “A,” eight earned a “B,” 19 earned a “C,” 4  earned a “D,” and 0 earned an “F.”

In Ohio, 114 hospitals were graded, and 33 earned an “A,” 36 earned a “B,” 41 earned a “C,” 3 earned a “D,” and 1 earned an “F.”

In Oregon, 34 hospitals were graded, and 13 earned an “A,” 9 earned a “B,” 10 earned a “C,” 2 earned a “D,” and 0 earned an “F.”

The hospitals that earned an “A” in our regions for the past decade since 2012 include OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital, Dublin, Ohio and OhioHealth Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware, Ohio.

“The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade enables unprecedented transparency, driving improvements and empowering patients for the past ten years,” said Patty Starr, president and CEO, Health Action Council. “We are proud to represent hospitals in our community who are prioritizing the safety of their patients. Our hospitals should continue to uphold high standards of patient care and safety to protect and save lives.”

“Full commitment of hospital leadership to safety remains essential. With transparency, hospitals have made tremendous progress over the last decade across patient safety measures and have the potential to make similar strides over the next 10 years,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.  “We congratulate the hospitals in this community that have proven their commitment to prioritizing patient safety. This achievement is no easy feat, considering the pandemic’s impact on care.”
