Virtual Expert Opinions to Alleviate Elective Surgery Demands

hosted by: Marsha Hyslop, Chief Clinical Officer, 2nd.MD

In a typical year, 21 million surgeries are performed in the U.S. About 91% are thought to be elective (non-emergency). If last year had been an average year, more than 19 million elective surgeries would have been performed. During the peak months of the COVID-19 pandemic, at least 4.5M elective surgeries were postponed. This created a backlog for healthcare systems/ hospitals to address and created an opportunity for patients to reevaluate their elective surgery plans and pause for three days to confirm their course of treatment with Virtual Expert Consultation.

What we'll discuss:

-How virtual expert opinions can alleviate the backlog of elective surgeries
-The importance of reevaluating elective surgey plans in a post-pandemic environment
-How second opinions can lower employer's medical costs
