65% of older Americans rely on family members to provide assistance with daily living to them. Women disproportionately provide the majority of unpaid adult caregiving which can come in the form of health provider, care manager, friend, surrogate decision maker, and advocate.

As the demand for caregiving rises with an aging population, so do the years women provide care to an adult family member. That means that 33% of women decrease their work hours per week and 29% pass up promotions, training, or assignments at work. Also, because of these time demands, women in a caregiving role were six times more likely to develop depression and/or anxiety. Studies found that 33% of these caregivers experienced poor health outcomes due to no time or support - which leads to 66% of women foregoing preventative treatment and testing.
