Bill Duane

Bill Duane works at the intersection of individual resilience and organizational effectiveness. As an engineering executive for Google earlier in his career, Bill was responsible for worldwide production engineering for Gmail, Apps and Websearch Infrastructure leading a team of 130 people across 5 countries. The experience (while wildly rewarding, interesting and exciting) led to burnout, which drove Bill to figure out why. As he investigated burnout, Bill discovered a deep interest in the biological, psychological and interpersonal mechanisms of happiness, effectiveness and well-being, which led him to create the role of Google's Superintendent of Well-Being. At Google, he and his team created worldwide programs to demonstrably move the needle on well-being at the individual, team and organizational level, partnering with various teams in the Google ecosystem to make it part of the culture.

After 12 years at Google and 25 years in corporate environments, he is taking his expertise to a more diverse set of individuals and organizations. Bill is currently a consultant to Google, Vice-Chair of the Board of Veterans PATH, Board Member of Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, Board Member of Taking it to the Streets, Strategic Advisor to Wisdom Labs.

Destin Sandlin

Destin Sandlin is an aerospace engineer known for his educational video series, Smarter Every Day (SED), a science-focused YouTube channel that he launched in 2007. Since its launch, SED has acquired 5.2 million subscribers and 422 million unique views, making it one of YouTube’s top-rated science channels. Episodes of Smarter Every Day revolve around scientific exploration and discovery.

Sandlin is fascinated by flight and space, but his videos explore a wide array of other topics including the effects of hypoxia on the human brain, the curiously sturdy Prince Rupert's drop, the physics of potato guns, and the nearly-impossible-to-ride backwards bicycle. In early 2016, Sandlin was one of three YouTube personalities chosen to conduct a one-on-one interview with President Obama, after his final State of the Union address. Last year, Destin started a second YouTube channel called The Sound Traveler in which he employs 3D audio and GoPro footage to capture and convey the experience of visiting the world's most interesting places. In February of this year he added a podcast to the Smarter Every Day channel, produced with his friend, Matt Whitman, called "No Dumb Questions." Sandlin received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Alabama, where he studied mechanical engineering, and his graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is a full-time Missile Flight Test Engineer at Redstone Arsenal, also in Huntsville, where he resides with his wife and four children.
